Preparation: getting everyone involved
Two weeks before the start of Cybersecurity Week, the campaign was launched with a general mailing and announcements through GOOSE VPN's internal communication channels. "We wanted everyone in the company, from our technical team to the support department, to know what was planned and how important cybersecurity is to our company," said CEO Joeri van de Watering. A week before the start, everyone received a detailed schedule with instructions on how to register for sessions and activities. Participation was not optional. All employees had to sign up and achieve a minimum number of points to stay actively involved. This created healthy competition and ensured high involvement.
Day 1: A Strong Start
The week began with an inspirational speaker who could be followed via livestream so that both office and home-based employees could participate. Everyone received a virtual goodie bag with useful tools to start the week off right. Later in the day, the first points were earned with a quiz focused specifically on cybersecurity within the VPN industry. This quiz not only tested knowledge, but also raised awareness about important topics such as data protection and privacy. In the afternoon, small teams engaged in the first escape room sessions, earning points through cyber puzzles.
Day 2: Deepening and 'gamification'
On the second day, interactive sessions were scheduled, divided into two knowledge levels: beginner and expert. In virtual training rooms, employees could choose which session best matched their knowledge level. "It was great to see everyone actively enrolling, even employees who normally have little involvement in IT-related topics," said CEO van de Watering. The point awards for each session motivated everyone to participate and learn new skills, resulting in a high participation rate.
Day 3: Hacking Demo and Escape Room
The third day was a highlight with a live hacking demo. In three online sessions, an expert demonstrated how easy it can be to hack a network, even when using a VPN service. This was an eye-opener for many employees and led to lively discussions on how GOOSE VPN can even better protect its customers from such threats. Meanwhile, the escape room sessions continued, giving everyone a chance to participate and score points.
Day 4: Internal knowledge and applicable procedures.
On the fourth day, the agenda included an internal knowledge session led by GOOSE VPN's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This session delved deeper into the company's internal security protocols and policies. Employees learned how to apply these guidelines in their daily work, both in the office and at home. Later in the day, there was a session on digital security in the private sphere, which discussed how employees can also protect their data at home. "Cybersecurity doesn't stop when we leave our VPN network; it's something we need to take seriously in our private lives as well," the CEO emphasized.
Day 5: Closing with impact
Cybersecurity Week concluded festively with drinks, with the CEO giving a speech on the impact of the week. He discussed the results and thanked everyone for their efforts. "What this week has made clear is that cybersecurity is not only a responsibility of our IT department, but of all of us," CEO van de Watering said. There was a review of how the week had gone and the positive impact it had had on awareness within the organization. Then there was time for informal networking and catching up.
Result: A successful Cybersecurity Week
Cybersecurity week at GOOSE VPN was a great success. The active involvement of all employees, regardless of their role in the company, created a strong sense of awareness and responsibility around cybersecurity. Employees not only learned about the dangers of cyber attacks, but were also motivated to apply their knowledge in their daily work. The result? An organization that is better prepared for cyber threats and a team that is stronger and more connected than ever. "This week has shown us that we are ready for the future and better able to ensure the security of our customers," the CEO proudly concluded.
