Increasing pressure
What do you do when faced with increasing pressure to strengthen information security practices? With the growing threat of cyber attacks and stricter regulations, companies sometimes need to act quickly to ensure system and data security and maintain customer trust. SPL is one of the many companies that realized that an ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certificate is necessary to guarantee information security. And it turned out that during the process, the organization received the tools to set the right course: a foundation was laid for a successful future in 6 months.

Our approach
SPL and Fendix cooperation
SPL is an innovative player in the field of designing, building, managing and optimizing digital infrastructures. And of course, a digital infrastructure must be secure. At the start of the process in March 2023, SPL only existed for 6 months. Nevertheless, they were already ready to take on the big challenge. Indeed, obtaining an ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certificate helps companies reduce information security risks and prevent incidents. Fendix has successfully taken up this challenge with SPL: resulting in a ISO 27001 and NO 7510 certificate in 6 months.
Jelle van Onna became the appointed consultant to guide SPL to success. “When I started at SPL, I became part of a team of six, working closely with the general manager, the operations manager and the security officer“, says Jelle. So at that time, SPL only existed for six months. Despite that, they were determined to immediately comply with the ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 standards. SPL's determination not only provided a good basis for information security, but has also helped the organization get off to a smooth and organized start. The preparation of the employee handbook is an excellent example of this.

The results
ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certificate
Jelle attended weekly on Mondays, where he spent one to two hours with the project team and set aside another hour for individual sessions with team members who were previously assigned “homework”. During these sessions, he was always available to answer questions via phone or email. The approach was thereby tailored to the needs of the organization. “The process went extremely smoothly, while I myself was continuously present on location. The organization has fully implemented information security in its processes, with a structured approach to issues such as onboarding and project planning,” says Jelle.
The first dress rehearsal was scheduled in July 2023. Mathijs Oppelaar, also a consultant at Fendix, conducted the internal audit out. The internal audit, a requirement of the ISO 27001 standard, is an investigation into the proper and reliable functioning of business processes and ways of working. On the basis of an audit plan, all components are assessed and tested. After making the necessary improvements, it was time for the real work: the external audit took place in September 2023. This last hurdle was overcome convincingly: with only 2 points for improvement and 0 shortcomings, the ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certificates were a fact!
